Varun Chakaravarthy is an Indian professional cricketer. He is also known by his nickname CV Varun. He played as a leg spin bowler. He played his first T20 International match in July 2021 and later made his ODI debut in February 2025.
In domestic cricket, he represents Tamil Nadu, and in the Indian Premier League, he is part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team. He was also in the squad that lifted the Champions Trophy in 2025.

Career & Cricket Stats
He first caught attention in the 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League, where he took 9 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 4.70, playing a key role in helping the Madurai Panthers win their first-ever title.
Soon after, on 20 September 2018, he made his List A debut for Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He played his first first-class match for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy on 12 November 2018.
The same year in December, he was signed by Kings XI Punjab during the IPL auction for a huge amount of ₹8.4 crores. He then went on to play his first T20 game for the team on 27 March 2019.
On 24 October 2020, he picked up his first five-wicket haul in the IPL, finishing with figures of 5 for 20 against Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi. In the following season, he became the leading wicket-taker for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021 IPL.

International Career
In October 2020, he was picked for India’s T20I squad for the Australia series. Later, in June 2021, he was included in both the ODI and T20I squads for the Sri Lanka tour.
He finally made his T20I debut on 25 July 2021 against Sri Lanka, where he took the wicket of Dasun Shanaka. In October 2024, he returned to international cricket after almost three years, taking 3 wickets for 31 runs in a T20I against Bangladesh at Gwalior.
In 2025, he was named Player of the Series against England after picking up 14 wickets in five matches, which also included his second five-wicket haul with figures of 5/24.
At 33 years and 164 days, he became India’s second-oldest player to make an ODI debut after Farokh Engineer.
In February 2025, he was included in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy and later earned a place in the ICC ‘Team of the Tournament’ for his performance.
