Kenny Makweng was born on September 3, 1969, in Ga-Matlala, a rural village in Limpopo, South Africa. He grew up as the youngest of six children in a loving but economically modest family, instilled with values of faith, hard work, and respect. His parents were devout members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), influencing Kenny’s upbringing.

He developed a passion for music at a young age, participating in the church choir and playing the guitar. Excelling in both academics and music, he earned a scholarship to St. John’s College in Johannesburg, where he completed his matric in 1987.

Kenny began his music career in 1988 by joining the gospel group Mojeremane and the Zion Stars as a lead singer and guitarist. The group’s first album, “Ke Na Le Modisa,” marked the beginning of Kenny’s rising star in the gospel scene. After five years with the group, he embarked on a solo career in 1993, establishing his own record label, KennyMak Productions.

Throughout his solo career, Kenny released numerous successful albums, blending traditional ZCC hymns with modern music elements. He collaborated with well-known gospel artists and received several awards for his contributions to the gospel music industry. Additionally, he achieved a personal milestone in 2023 by obtaining a BA degree in music from the University of Limpopo.
