Cricket Career
He started his cricket journey with the support of his father, Sanjeev Saharan, who is both an Ayurveda doctor and a certified BCCI coach. Seeing his talent early, the family moved his training to Bhatinda, Punjab, when he was just 12 years old.
The decision worked well, as Uday went on to perform strongly in Punjab’s U14 and U16 tournaments and also led the junior teams as captain.
His strong performances for Punjab in the U14 and U16 teams opened the door for him to play at the U19 level. In November 2023, while playing for India D in the U19 One Day Challenger Trophy held in Guwahati, he scored 293 runs in just four matches.
He hit a half-century in every game and maintained a strike rate of over 82. His consistent batting earned him a place in the Indian U19 cricket team.
In 2022, he led the Indian side in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, where the team reached the semifinals. Later, after his impressive showing in the 2023 U-19 Challenger Trophy, he was once again chosen as captain of the U19 team.
In that tournament, he scored 297 runs in five matches, finishing with an outstanding batting average of 99.
On 20 January 2024, India played their opening match of the U19 World Cup in South Africa against Bangladesh at the Mangaung Oval.
Batting first, the Indian team scored 251 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Among the top contributors with the bat were Adarsh Singh and Uday Saharan.
